From the highlands of western Ethiopia's Agaro region, Nano Genji brings together the harvests of 819 smallholder farmers from the community of Genji Challa. Here, coffee is grown on small plots of land, often less than two hectares, at elevations exceeding 2,000 meters above sea level. The region's abundant rainfall, fertile soils and high elevations provide exceptional growing conditions for coffee.
Careful processing is central to Nano Genji's character. After harvest, ripe coffee cherries are mechanically depulped and soaked overnight to remove any remaining mucilage. The coffee is then spread across raised drying beds, where it is regularly turned to ensure even drying. This meticulous approach produces a beautifully clean and expressive washed coffee.
In the cup, Nano Genji offers a vibrant combination of yellow peach, raspberry and lemon-drop citrus, balanced by a delicate, sugar-cane sweetness. Bright, juicy and remarkably clear, it's a wonderful expression of the distinctive coffees grown in Ethiopia's Agaro region.
