In the Lacco Valley, where the Andes gradually descend toward the Amazon, Quechua farming communities have cultivated coffee for more than half a century. Today, a new chapter is emerging as women producers expand their leadership and influence within the specialty coffee value chain.
This lot was produced by the Women Producers Group of Orígenes, a collective established in 2022 to strengthen women’s participation, technical knowledge and economic visibility within the cooperative. Representing 53 associated women across several communities, a core group of producers collaborated to assemble this coffee. While managing farms alongside household and community responsibilities, these producers have created a space for shared learning, experimentation and collective decision making.
The cooperative itself is young, beginning operations in 2021 and formally established in April 2022. In a short time farmers have increased production by roughly 10 percent annually while incomes have risen by about 11 percent. Women have played a central role in this progress, contributing to farm management, quality decisions and the development of differentiated coffees.
Participation in the Women Producers Group has strengthened quality, improved income opportunities and expanded women’s leadership within the cooperative. This coffee reflects both the deep agricultural traditions of Quechua communities and a growing commitment to equity, collaboration and long term sustainability at origin.
This coffee is round and comforting, with notes of caramel, milk chocolate and toasted nuts, supported by gentle baking spice and a smooth finish.
