Bette Buna is a vertically integrated coffee company founded in 2020 by husband and wife Dawit and Hester. Their work builds on a family legacy that began with Dawit’s grandparents, who farmed coffee in Taferi Kela, Sidama for nearly a century. After his grandfather’s passing, Dawit and Hester stepped in to steward the farm and expand the project with a clear goal: create meaningful opportunities for coffee-growing communities while producing exceptional coffee. Today Bette Buna operates farms across Guji, Yirgacheffe, Sidama and Bench Maji and partners with farmers throughout these regions.
This lot comes from smallholder producers in Taferi Kela and was processed at Bette Buna’s washing station. Cherries are depulped and fermented for 24–36 hours in water-filled concrete tanks, then washed and dried on raised beds for 8–15 days. After drying, the coffee rests in parchment to stabilize before milling. Once prepared, the parchment is transported to Bette Buna’s Gelan mill near Addis Ababa for final cleaning, grading by size and density and color sorting before export.
In the cup, the coffee is bright and sweet with notes of sweet orange, warm baking spice and a rounded caramel and chocolate finish.
